Thank
you for considering Alaskan Wilderness Expeditions for your next
big game hunt. Whether you are pursuing Dall sheep, mountain goat,
interior grizzly bear, Alaska/Yukon moose, coastal Alaska brown
bear or Alaska black bear, you can rest assured that you'll be getting
the hunt of a lifetime with one of the most experienced guides Alaska
has to offer.
At Wilderness Expeditions our specialty is custom-tailored adventure
dall sheep hunting. From the very beginning of our business, Alaskan
Wilderness Expeditions have felt that guiding is not just a way
to make a living, but it's also the chance to give the hunting community
an opportunity to partake in truly unique hunting adventures. We
offer a wide variety of hunting adventures from excellent moose,
mountain goat and brown/grizzly bear hunting. Our hunts are an educational
experience.
For the die-hard sheep fanatic, we provide exceptional wilderness
hunts in the heart of the Chugach and Talkeetna mountain ranges.
If you want to push yourself to the limit, we can provide rugged
backpack hunts. Or, if you would rather have something less strenuous,
we specialize in hunts where camps are actually set right among
the sheep. Either way, honest fair-chase dall sheep hunting is not
only a practice, but it's also a standard that we live by.
Sheep
hunts are all-inclusive from Anchorage, Alaska and from the time
you are met in Anchorage until the time you are returned to Anchorage
at the end of your hunt, we will make sure that you receive personalized
attention and that all your needs are taken care of. We will help
you with obtaining the proper license, permits (if necessary), metal-locking
tags and harvest tickets for your sheep hunt. We can and will assist
with meat/trophy shipping and if necessary, the selection of a taxidermist.
And, we can help you to make arrangements for accommodations that
are associated with your travel to/from Alaska.
We offer two dall sheep hunts each year and those hunts are conducted
during the month of August. We provide one-on-one or two-on-one
hunts. By limiting the number of sheep hunters, we are able to assure
an aesthetically pleasing experience and trophy quality. Sheep hunting
in the Chugach Mountains is by drawing permit only. Sheep hunts
in the Talkeetna Mountains are by way of over-the-counter tags.
Quality rams are found in both mountain ranges. However, the Alaska
Department of Fish and Game management-plan for a portion of the
Chugach Mountains allows the killing of "any ram".
Sheep
Hunts Alaska General Season (over-the-counter tags):
These sheep hunts are conducted in the Talkeetna Mountains. The
Talkeetna Mountains have produced numerous record book rams in the
past. Over the past three decades, we've harvested a number of exceptionally
large Dall sheep. The current sheep population is stable and it's
slightly increasing. Rams average slightly more than 35 inches in
horn-length, but rams that are over 40 inches are available. The
hunts are conducted during the month of August and this is a very
pleasant time to be in the sheep mountains. The local scenery is
fantastic. Days are very long during August and a client can expect
to be afield a total of 14-16 hours each day. Again, these are not
backpack hunts. Access to various camp locations is by way of highly
modified Piper PA-18 Supercub aircraft and camps are established
"at altitude" - among the sheep. Sheep are always seen
right from camp and hunters have occasionally killed rams right
from their tents. Black bear and wolf hunting are available at no
extra charge and interior mountain grizzly hunt can be added to
a sheep hunt, on a trophy fee basis. Hunts are ten days duration.
DATES/RATES:
Schedule and Current Temporary Discounts (both seasons):
August 8-17 - $10,000.00 (one-on-one) or $8,500.00 (two-on-one)
August 20-29 - $10,000.00 (one-on-one) or $8,500.00 (two-on-one)
Hunting License, Big Game Tags & Professional Licensing
Information:
LICENSE/TAGS:
License, tags and harvest tickets are available online or from license
vendors throughout Alaska. License and tag(s) for all species listed
on an official Guide/Outfitter Hunt Record - which is generated
by the State of Alaska prior to a hunt - must be purchased in advance
and before entering the field. However, a big game tag may be used
on an animal of equal or lesser value.
PREMIER
ALASKA LIMITED ENTRY PERMIT DALL SHEEP HUNTS: (lottery
permit only):
These hunts are conducted in the Chugach Mountain Range. The Chugach
Mountains are well-known for producing exceptionally large record
book rams. The current Number Two Boone & Crockett ram was killed
in these mountains and the current World Record Pope & Young
ram was also killed in these mountains. Many other top-quality record
book rams have come from the alpine basins and remote headwaters
of these mountains. Currently, these are some of the best sheep
hunts in Alaska. As such, Chugach Mountain sheep hunts are quite
popular and the odds of drawing a coveted permit are quite low.
However, if a hunter does draw a permit, he's assured of an aesthetically
pleasing hunt and in some instances, the ability to harvest any
ram. If a client does not draw a permit, he or she has two options;
continue with the booked reservation and hunt the over-the-counter
tag area or, roll the reservation to the next year - or years thereafter
- and thereby re-apply for a draw permit. As with the Talkeetna
Mountains hunts, access to various hunting locations is via modified
Piper PA-18 Supercub aircraft and camps are usually set at elevation
(among the sheep). Black bear and wolf are available at no extra
charge and, interior mountain grizzly and/or mountain goat are available
on a trophy fee basis. Hunts are ten days duration.
Dall
Sheep hunts should to be in good physical condition to really enjoy
the experience of hunting in these outstanding sheep areas. We can
help a client or clients through the permit application process.
Draw odds are low, but if a client happens to draw a permit, it's
truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We strongly recommend that
all serious sheep hunters submit permit applications for the premier
limited-entry sheep hunts. However, in order for a client or clients
to be eligible for the permit application process, an official Guide/Client
Contract-Agreement must be completed, signed and dated prior to
application. In addition, a client must purchase a hunting license
in advance. But, since we are a small guide service, we can customize
each dall sheep hunt to the individual client's needs. Plus, it
should be mentioned that Sheep Hunts Alaska offers special two-on-one
rates for those clients who wish to hunt simultaneously.
